ClassGraphic Course Description
Start here to learn the skills needed to carry out basic restoration on a piece of furniture of your choice. This two-evening course will allow you to begin restoring a wood project under the supervison and guidance of experience furniture restorer.  The course will introduce you to the skills necessary to start salvaging your pre-loved furniture.
You will learn to recognize various types of wood and learn the best types of paint and varnishes to use on them. Step-by-step guides will cover everything from performing small repairs, stripping back and polishing wood and mending dents and scratches.

  • You will receive safety tips - restoring furniture can include the use of some potentially hazardous tools and chemicals.
  • Hear how to identify antiques, how to inspect a piece of furniture and how to decide what is worth restoring and what isn’t.
  • Learn how to make various types of repairs including loose joints, stripping furniture, repairing dents and fractures, staining wood and varnishing wooden furniture.
  • Explore which tools you will need and how to use them, including the safe use of electrical tools and how to clean your tools.
  • Gain an understanding of different types of wood, paint and refinishing options.
This course has no prerequisite.

Bring your own project to restore.  You must be able to lift, load and move your project by yourself.  We suggest a single chair or small side table (no larger than 18" in width).
