Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program

Lethbridge College is proud to partner with Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and Southern Alberta EMS departments to provide this exciting program.

The Emergency Medical Technician program is a certificate program accredited by the Canadian Medical Association in which all provincial and national competencies are taught based on the
National Occupational Competency Profile. The competencies are taught through lecture, self-study and extensive labs and practicums. Students learn to assess and treat patients in medical and trauma emergencies with 392 hours on campus followed by 40 hours hospital practicum and a minimum of 200 hours ambulance practicum.

EMT Assessment:  Selection for the EMT program is based on the results of an online interview process.  Registration for EMT Assessment opens 3 months prior to program start date and prerequisites are required at this time.

Course Details
Tuition:  $8,645.00 SUBJECT TO CHANGE
plus student fees ($250.00 + GST) non-refundable
Program Length: 392 hours theory; hospital and ambulance practicum to follow
  • Participants must be 18 years or older (at course start date)
  • Successful completion of EMR or NAIT
    or Lethbridge College's MFR
  • Current CPR for health care providers or basic life support (Heart & Stoke certification recommended)
  • EMT Assement completion - online interview as part of selection process
  • Additional supplies and fees:  Cost of textbooks, material fees, iPad, uniforms and boots are not included in the tuition or student fees. Selection for the program is based on the results of the EMT student assessment (mandatory prerequisite).
  • All fees and material fees are non-refundable for this course.

After successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to write the Alberta College of Paramedics provincial certification exam. Your ACP license is required for employment in Alberta.
