Course Description The Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification Program, offered in partnership with the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA), is the foundation of your career in payroll. It provides you with the compliance knowledge required to process your organization’s annual payroll cycle, effectively communicate payroll information to all stakeholders, and understand the accounting function as it relates to payroll. Payroll Compliance Legislation is the first course required for the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification. Throughout this course you will learn basic compliance requirements and how to describe them to others. Outcomes Upon successful completion of Payroll Compliance Legislation, you will: understand compliance requirements. be able to describe payroll’s objectives and stakeholders. identify an employer/employee relationship. apply federal and provincial legislation to payroll including:  The Canada Pension Plan, The Employment Insurance Act, The Income Tax Act, Employment Standards legislation, Workers’ Compensation Acts and Quebec-specific legislation. communicate the payroll compliance requirements to various stakeholders. Prerequisites Good writing and basic mathematical skills will be required to successfully complete this course. Notes In order to achieve certification, all course must be completed with 65% or higher. Students must be a current member of the Canadian Payroll Association and may be required to pay the associated fees. Course Description: Bookkeeping Skills is a thorough overview of basic bookkeeping emphasizing generally accepted accounting (GAAP) principles in completing procedures and statements required for the standard accounting cycle.   Bookkeepers play an essential and crucial role in keeping small businesses running and profitable. Whether you own your own business or want to be highly employable, having the skills to understand how businesses handle money and make profits will always serve you well. Bookkeeping skills are incredibly valuable and transferable to many different disciplines and work environments including working from the comfort of your home. This course will introduce you to the world of Bookkeeping including journals, ledgers, bank reconciliation, petty cash, GST and other related transactions.   Outcomes: Upon successful completion of Bookkeeping Skills, you will: have a good understanding of GAAP principles. understand basic bookkeeping. have a foundation to begin a new career. understand the flow of money through your business. obtain a Recognition of Achievement certificate.   Prerequisites: This course has no prerequisites.   Notes: Participants are required to buy the corresponding textbook "College Accounting: A Practical Approach (Cdn Ed)" by Slater & Zwicker and is available at the Lethbridge College Bookstore.   Other course materials are provided.   This course can be used toward the 150 hour requirement to obtain Blue Seal Certification.
