Course Description When to use a MIG welder versus a TIG welder can be tough to distinguish. TIG welding is more commonly used for thinner gauge materials. Items that are made with this process are things like kitchen sinks or anything that requires a precise, gentle touch. TIG welding is often a cleaner process, but much slower and technical than MIG welding. Mig Welding/Tig Welding is an 8-week course designed to instruct you in basic GMAW(MIG) and GTAW(TIG) welding. You will also learn the practical and theoretical, fundamentals and procedures. In this course we will explore both methods of welding along with joint preparation, various techniques on pipe, different thickness gauges on metal and plate, types and sizes of filler metal, shielding gases, and more. Outcomes Upon successful completion of Basic Mig Welding/Tig Welding, you will: know the techniques required for MIG and TIG welding. understand when one method is more appropriate than the other. have increase your skills at metal edge preparation. TIG weld with aluminum and stainless steel. understand Flux Core welding. obtain a Recognition of Participation certificate.   Prerequisites This course has no prerequisites. Notes Participants will need to bring their own pair of safety glasses, steel-toed boots, cotton or natural fiber coveralls, welding gloves, and a 12LC vise grip. A welding helmet is optional, but recommended. Other course materials are included.
