Basic Welding

Course Description
Have you always wanted to know how to weld? Over the course of this eight-week program, participants will learn the basics of welding and develop confidence in the shop.
 
In Basic Welding, you will learn how to safely use various materials, tools and techniques integral for welding. This course covers the basics of oxy-acetylene and shielded metal arc welding with related theory and practical lab instruction. You will learn how to weld common joint types on mild steel that is often encountered in manufacturing, construction, and repairs. Increase your good welding habits by getting hands-on experience in fusion welding of mild steel in both oxy-acetylene and shielded arc welding, brazing and torch cutting, and care for equipment. What’s stopping you?
 

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of Basic Welding, you will:
  • have gained knowledge and skills in basic welding
  • be able to weld common joint types on mild steel
  • feel confident and safe while welding
  • obtain a Recognition of Participation certificate
 
Prerequisites
This course has no prerequisites.


Notes
Participants will need to bring their own pair of safety glasses, steel-toed boots, cotton or natural fiber coveralls, and welding gloves. A self-darkening welding helmet is optional, but highly recommended.
