CourseGraphic Course Description

This micro-course is about the consequences of

  1. individual decision making under conditions of scarcity and uncertainty; and
  2. interactions among individuals in the marketplace.

Students will become proficient in identifying and delineating these consequences using aquaponics as the focal point.

Particular emphasis is placed on the following:

  • Economics as a way of thinking
  • The types of questions that economics can help explain, such as what to produce, how, and for whom
  • Why it's important to understand economic principles

This micro-course may be the most important of all the aquaponics micro-credentials. I don't mean this in a vain way; rather, the subject matter of this course integrates and transcends the material in all the others.

Every decision made by every person at every moment in time in every place transpires under unavoidable conditions of scarcity and uncertainty. Understanding this and tracing the resulting implications will improve your decision making skills concerning aquaponics in every aspect, as well as all your decision making abilities beyond aquaponics.

Learning Outcomes
  • The study of economic science helps people comprehend the world around them. In this course, you will gain not only the skills needed to interpret markets directly related to aquaponics, but also strong analytical and problem-solving skills that will serve you well in business and in private life.
